We would love to hear about how you FIRST heard of the River Valley Rollergirls.  Hopefully this information will better allow us to get the word out about our awesome sport to those who have never hear of the RVRGs.  After answering the poll question, we would appreciate it if you could leave a message going into detail about how you FIRST heard of the RVRGs.

Well @ the time I didn't even know that they did roller derby any more.  I took my son to a school skate party at the Wheels in Motion.  I watched him skate and I couldn't stand it anymore, I had to put some skates on.  So I went and got a pair of those brownie skate (which I have never worn in my life, always had my own), and I'll be damned if I could skate.  I hadn't been on skates for 17 years, but I also was a speed skater for 2 years back home in Iola, Kansas.
So anyways I had to go by me some skates that very next week.  Then I took my butt back to Wheels in Motion.  I skated and skated and skated somemore.  Then this strange guy(no longer with us) came to me and said "Do you know anything about roller derby?"  Oh course I was ecstatic and I said "yes, that was great back in the 70's."  He continued on about this team called the River Valley Roller Girls.  He told me alot about and said to come and watch.  The next practice, I went even though I was very intimidated.  Mark (the rinks owner) said for me to get my skates on and get out there.  So I did as he said and been in it to win it ever since.  I am now addicted to roller derby,  When & if I do get hurt I will need a straight jacket with some tie downs on it to keep me off my skates.  It is the best thing I have eve done in my life.SO, COME GET YOU SOME, NOW!

I heard about the league several different ways.
The FIRST place I heard about it was from a flyer at Roosters on Garrison, then after that It seemed like I heard about it everywhere.
I heard Jessica talkin it up about the league on 95.3, saw flyers at New Level Tattoo, read the article in the paper, recomended by a league member, and added the myspace page all within a few months.
I was totally proud of Fort Smith for having a roller derby league. That is huge for our area. I knew I couldnt pass up getting involved!

Sonny brought flyers into Midwest Sporting Goods when I worked there, so I decided to come to a practice and check it out.
I love me some roller derby now.

I first saw the article in the Southwest Times around Sept of 06.  I wanted to join at the time but was basically too intimidated.  I saw a flyer at Aroma's about the bout against GCRG in Springdale and thought it would be cool to go to, but I guess life happened and I didn't go.  When another article came out in the paper in Feb of 06, I told myself that it was now or never.  It had been well over 20 years since I had been on skates and I wasn't a speed skater and I couldn't even skate backwards then, so I was VERY intimidated at my first few practices.

The article said that derby was a good way to meet new people and great exercise.  That's what appealed to me the most.  I've now got another "family" and I lost 20 lbs the first year.  I love me some derby and my derby family!!

I was in Flying Burrito in Little Rock and saw a flier for the Feb 15th bout. I went to the bout mostly just to take pictures for my blog. I'm doing a photo every day for a year, so I've been branching out, going to different events to help fill some of the days.

I ended up liking it quite a bit and I've been to 2 more bouts now. Very cool sport.
